About Me - Who is Jon Jensen anyway?

If I were to list off facts about myself, at the top of the list would be that I’m a husband and a father of three. We love traveling and doing stuff together as a family. Being a Dad is so stinking fun. I enjoy diving into learning new things which is why most describe me as a hobbyist of hobbies. In my free time I love leatherworking, woodworking, 3D printing, Disc Golf, and exploring new places with my family.

Dan Pink's 'Motivation 2.0' - How I lead design teams

I've learned through experience that the best way to both find success as an individual contributor and also lead a team of designers is to have these three core values in focus.

  • Autonomy. I try to create clear objectives and boundaries, ensuring the team understands priorities, and then empowering them to determine the 'how' in their work.
  • Mastery. When people feel they’re growing and becoming experts in their craft, their confidence and contribution to the team’s success naturally increase.
  • Purpose. People are most engaged when they feel their efforts align with a meaningful mission or goal. This alignment drives motivation and reinforces a sense of pride and belonging, which are key to long-term success.
